About KINDRA

KINDRA WESTERCAMP

“I honestly feel so lucky in that I do not go to work, but rather I am able to do the work that I love, that never feels mundane, and always challenges and promotes my personal and professional growth.”

Kindra lives in West Ashley with her husband, two young daughters, two cats, and a dog. She enjoys taking family walks, reading, shopping at TJ Maxx, tending to her plants, organizing, watching Bravo TV, and cooking. Early 2023, she wrote her first children’s picture book story and is currently working with an illustrator to bring her book to life.

Kindra received her B.S. in psychology from Iowa State University where she graduated with honors. Kindra went on to pursue her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. During her graduate training, she completed externships at a community family mental health center, Advocate Illinois Masonic Behavioral Health Services, and Northwestern University Healthsystem. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Vanderbilt University Psychological Counseling Center, as well as Vanderbilt University Department of Veterans Affairs, where she gained specialized experience working with couples, as well as individuals who present with trauma and anxiety. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the College of Charleston Counseling and Substance Abuse Services. In addition to private practice, Kindra has also served as a clinical supervisor and an adjunct professor of psychology at College of Charleston.

Therapeutic Style

Kindra attempts to bring her creativity, humor, authenticity, and spontaneity into the therapeutic space. She cares deeply for each of her clients and will work as hard as you do to help you achieve your goals for therapy. A strong therapeutic alliance is integral to the work you will do; therefore, it is necessary that you both assess whether or not you are well-suited to embark on this journey together. She has a strong foundation in cognitive-behavioral therapy, but her work with you will be informed by an integration of relevant modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Kindra has received specialized training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), both evidenced-based treatments to help reduce symptoms of PTSD. She has additionally received advance training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman’s Method, both treatment approaches for couples therapy. Kindra will work with you to identify the treatment approach that is best suited to meet your unique needs.
