Helping couples reconnect, Heal, and Thrive Together
Do your conversations with your partner quickly turn into criticism, defensiveness, or silence? Do you miss feeling like a team? Perhaps you’ve started to wonder whether things can get better- or even whether you want them to.
At Westercamp Counseling, Kindra helps couples break free from painful patterns that keep them stuck; she helps couples rebuild trust, emotional connection, and security. And for those couples questioning whether they want to continue being romantic partners, Kindra helps you both clarify the future of the relationship, whatever that decision may be.
Why Emotionally Focused Therapy?
Our relationships give us great purpose and meaning in life. The relationship we have with our partner, marital or otherwise, is perhaps one of the most vital/significant relationships in our adult life. Yet, what happens to each individual when this critical relationship ceases to be a safe, content, secure space? Many couples may attempt to decrease their relationship distress, but find the process daunting and unproductive. Oftentimes, the distress in one’s relationship cannot be altered through “communication skills” interventions or other relationship enhancing exercises alone.
Perhaps, even, certain types of couples therapy have proven ineffective at decreasing conflict and increasing closeness/connection. This is where Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) comes in; EFT can provide a new and highly effective approach in treating relationship distress. It is the most effective relational therapy ever researched, creating long term, stable change that remains in place over time. Change in EFT ultimately helps create a more secure attachment bond in a relationship.
What Exactly is Emotionally Focused Therapy?
EFT is one of the most well studied and effective approaches for couples therapy. EFT focuses on emotions, attachment needs, and emotional connection. EFT helps you notice the patterns that show up when you feel stressed, anxious, or triggered- like shutting down or lashing out. Instead of staying stuck in these cycles, EFT helps to understand your underlying needs, like a need for safety, connection, or reassurance. In short, EFT helps people move from reactive protective behaviors to more open and emotionally connected relationships by understanding the deeper feelings underneath conflict.

What Actually Happens During EFT?
These are all signs you may benefit from working with a couples therapist. Westercamp Counseling believes every couple deserves the opportunity to feel seen and understood. Kindra will help you stop walking on eggshells with one another by fostering open, honest conversations that ideally move you from conflict to connection.
Creating Safety
The first step is building a safe and supportive space where you can begin to talk openly about your emotions and experiences.
Identifying Negative Cycles
Together we will look at recurring patterns or cycles that tend to show up in your relationships, especially in times of stress or conflict. These cycles often mask the deeper feelings underneath, like fear of rejection or longing for closeness.
Exploring Emotions
EFT helps you access and share the emotions that often remain hidden, like vulnerability, sadness, or fear. Naming these feelings brings clarity and can help your loved ones better understand your needs.
Reshaping Interactions
As you begin to understand and share your emotional experience, you can start to break out of old cycles. This creates space for new, more supportive ways of interacting and responding to one another.
Strengthening Bonds
Over time, EFT helps build a stronger sense of trust, security, and closeness in your relationships. You learn how to communicate more openly and respond to one another with greater empathy and care.

I’ll meet individually with the other partner, which will help me better understand each person’s unique needs and how these may influence the couple dynamic.
Moving Forward Together
After these initial sessions, we’ll return to working together as a couple.
FAQ About Couples Therapy
Will you take sides?
No. My role is not to decide who is right or wrong. I provide a safe, balanced space where both partners can feel heard, understood, and supported while we work together to strengthen your relationship.
What if we argue during therapy?
I often tell couples, “You could argue at home for free, so we’re not going to do that here.” Difficult conversations and some conflict is common in couples therapy, but I’ll help slow down these cycles as they present in session and assist you in expressing your emotions and needs in a safe space.
Do you have to talk about the past?
EFT focuses primarily on the patterns happening between you and your partner in the present. However, we will to some extent explore past experiences as they help us understand current relationship dynamics.
Will couples therapy help us stop fighting?
The goal isn’t necessarily to eliminate conflict. Healthy relationships can still have disagreements. Instead, EFT helps couples learn to navigate conflict with greater understanding, emotional safety, and connection.
What if we're considering seperation or divorce?
You don’t have to have your future figured out before beginning therapy. Couples therapy can provide a space to slow down, gain clarity, and better understand your relationship and what each of you needs moving forward.
How long does couples therapy take?
Every couple is different. The length of therapy depends on your goals, the challenges you’re facing, and your progress. I don’t tend to tell couples how often they should be seen but have observed that meeting less than twice a month greatly slows down the momentum of therapy.
How long are couple therapy sessions?
Generally, I meet with couples for 60 minutes. However, some couples prefer 90-minute sessions, as they find them more productive.

By helping partners understand the emotions and needs beneath their conflictual patterns, EFT creates the opportunity for deeper connection, greater security, and lasting change.
I would feel honored to help you as a couple transform patterns of conflict and disconnection into greater connection, understanding, and intimacy.
